National Lament and Prayer for Help

To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.

We have heard with our ears, O God,
    our fathers have told us,
what deeds thou didst perform in their days,
    in the days of old:
 
² thou with thy own hand didst drive out the nations,
    but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples,
    but them thou didst set free; ³ for not by their own sword did they win the land,
    nor did their own arm give them victory; but thy right hand, and thy arm,
    and the light of thy countenance;
    for thou didst delight in them.

⁴ Thou art my King and my God,
    who ordainest^[a] victories for Jacob.
 
⁵ Through thee we push down our foes;
    through thy name we tread down our assailants. ⁶ For not in my bow do I trust,
    nor can my sword save me. ⁷ But thou hast saved us from our foes,
    and hast put to confusion those who hate us. ⁸ In God we have boasted continually,
    and we will give thanks to thy name for ever.Selah

⁹ Yet thou hast cast us off and abased us,
    and hast not gone out with our armies.
 
¹⁰ Thou hast made us turn back from the foe;
    and our enemies have gotten spoil. ¹¹ Thou hast made us like sheep for slaughter,
    and hast scattered us among the nations. ¹² Thou hast sold thy people for a trifle,
    demanding no high price for them.

¹³ Thou hast made us the taunt of our neighbors,
    the derision and scorn of those about us.
 
¹⁴ Thou hast made us a byword among the nations,
    a laughingstock^[b] among the peoples. ¹⁵ All day long my disgrace is before me,
    and shame has covered my face, ¹⁶ at the words of the taunters and revilers,
    at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.

¹⁷ All this has come upon us,
    though we have not forgotten thee,
    or been false to thy covenant.
 
¹⁸ Our heart has not turned back,
    nor have our steps departed from thy way, ¹⁹ that thou shouldst have broken us in the place of jackals,
    and covered us with deep darkness.

²⁰ If we had forgotten the name of our God,
    or spread forth our hands to a strange god,
²¹ would not God discover this?
    For he knows the secrets of the heart. ²² Nay, for thy sake we are slain all the day long,
    and accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

²³ Rouse thyself! Why sleepest thou, O Lord?
    Awake! Do not cast us off for ever!
 
²⁴ Why dost thou hide thy face?
    Why dost thou forget our affliction and oppression? ²⁵ For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
    our body cleaves to the ground. ²⁶ Rise up, come to our help!
    Deliver us for the sake of thy steadfast love!

    и заставил оставить их землю.
⁴ Не мечом своим землю отцы добыли,
    и не сила их дала им победу,
а Твоя правая рука и сила Твоя,
    и свет Твоего лица,
потому что Ты возлюбил их.

⁵ Ты − Царь мой и Бог;
    даруй победы^[a] Иакову!
⁶ С Тобой мы тесним врага
    и во Имя Твое попираем противника.
⁷ Я не верю в свой лук,
    и не меч мой мне дарит победу.
⁸ Это Ты спасаешь нас от врагов,
    ненавидящих нас предаешь стыду.
⁹ Богом мы хвалимся каждый день
    и Имя Твое будем славить вовек.Пауза

    и уже не выходишь с войсками нашими на битву.

¹³ За бесценок Ты продал народ Свой,
    ничего от продажи не выручив.

¹⁴ Ты сделал нас глумлением для наших соседей;
    все окружающие смеются и издеваются над нами.
¹⁵ Ты сделал нас посмешищем для других народов;
    люди качают головой, глядя на нас.
¹⁶ Всякий день бесчестие мое предо мной,
    и лицо мое горит от стыда
¹⁷ из-за насмешек тех, кто злословит меня и бранит,
    из-за мстительного врага.

¹⁸ Все это случилось с нами,
    хотя мы Тебя не забыли
и не предали Твой завет.
¹⁹ Не отступали наши сердца,
    и наши стопы с пути Твоего не сходили.
²⁰ Но Ты сокрушил нас,
    превратил наши жилища в шакальи логова
и покрыл нас непроглядной тьмой.

²¹ Если бы забыли мы Имя нашего Бога
    и к чужому богу простерли руки,
²² неужели Бог не узнал бы об этом –
    Тот, Кто ведает тайны сердца?
²³ Ради Тебя убивают нас всякий день
    и смотрят на нас, как на овец перед бойней.

²⁴ Пробудись, Владыка! Почему Ты спишь?
    Восстань! Не отвергни нас навсегда.
²⁵ Почему Ты скрываешь лицо,
    забывая беду нашу и гонения?

²⁶ Сведена наша жизнь во прах,
    и тела наши льнут к земле.
²⁷ Восстань, помоги нам;
    спаси нас по Своей милости.

For God alone my soul waits in silence;
    from him comes my salvation.
² He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be greatly moved.

³ How long will you set upon a man
    to shatter him, all of you,
    like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
⁴ They only plan to thrust him down from his eminence.
    They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths,
    but inwardly they curse.Selah

⁵ For God alone my soul waits in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
⁶ He only is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken. ⁷ On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

⁸ Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us.Selah

⁹ Men of low estate are but a breath,
    men of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    they are together lighter than a breath.
¹⁰ Put no confidence in extortion,
    set no vain hopes on robbery;
    if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

¹¹ Once God has spoken;
    twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God;

⁵ Думают лишь о том,
    как свергнуть его с почетного места,
и радуются лжи.
    Устами благословляют,
а в сердце своем проклинают.Пауза
⁶ Только в Боге покойся, моя душа;
    на Него надежда моя.
⁷ Только Он мне скала и спасение,
    Он − крепость моя; я не буду поколеблен.
⁸ В Боге спасение и слава моя;

⁹ Надейся на Него, народ, во всякое время,

Praise and Thanksgiving

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. A Song.

Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered;
    let those who hate him flee before him!
² As smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
    as wax melts before fire,
    let the wicked perish before God! ³ But let the righteous be joyful;
    let them exult before God;
    let them be jubilant with joy!

⁴ Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
    lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds;^[a]
    his name is the Lord, exult before him!

⁵ Father of the fatherless and protector of widows
    is God in his holy habitation.
⁶ God gives the desolate a home to dwell in;
    he leads out the prisoners to prosperity;
    but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

⁷ O God, when thou didst go forth before thy people,
    when thou didst march through the wilderness,Selah
⁸ the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain,
    at the presence of God; yon Sinai quaked at the presence of God,
    the God of Israel. ⁹ Rain in abundance, O God, thou didst shed abroad;
    thou didst restore thy heritage as it languished; ¹⁰ thy flock found a dwelling in it;
    in thy goodness, O God, thou didst provide for the needy.

¹¹ The Lord gives the command;
    great is the host of those who bore the tidings:
¹²     “The kings of the armies, they flee, they flee!”
The women at home divide the spoil,
¹³     though they stay among the sheepfolds—
the wings of a dove covered with silver,
    its pinions with green gold.
¹⁴ When the Almighty scattered kings there,
    snow fell on Zalmon.

¹⁵ O mighty mountain, mountain of Bashan;
    O many-peaked mountain, mountain of Bashan!
¹⁶ Why look you with envy, O many-peaked mountain,
    at the mount which God desired for his abode,
    yea, where the Lord will dwell for ever?

¹⁷ With mighty chariotry, twice ten thousand,
    thousands upon thousands,
    the Lord came from Sinai into the holy place.^[b]
18 Thou didst ascend the high mount,
    leading captives in thy train,
    and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the Lord God may dwell there.

¹⁹ Blessed be the Lord,
    who daily bears us up;
    God is our salvation.

²⁰ Our God is a God of salvation;
    and to God, the Lord, belongs escape from death.

²¹ But God will shatter the heads of his enemies,
    the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilty ways.
²² The Lord said,
    “I will bring them back from Bashan,
    I will bring them back from the depths of the sea, ²³ that you may bathe^[c] your feet in blood,
    that the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from the foe.”

²⁴ Thy solemn processions are seen,^[d] O God,
    the processions of my God, my King, into the sanctuary—
²⁵ the singers in front, the minstrels last,
    between them maidens playing timbrels: ²⁶ “Bless God in the great congregation,
    the Lord, O you who are of Israel’s fountain!” ²⁷ There is Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead,
    the princes of Judah in their throng,
    the princes of Zeb′ulun, the princes of Naph′tali.

²⁸ Summon thy might, O God;
    show thy strength, O God, thou who hast wrought for us.
²⁹ Because of thy temple at Jerusalem
    kings bear gifts to thee. ³⁰ Rebuke the beasts that dwell among the reeds,
    the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples. Trample^[e] under foot those who lust after tribute;
    scatter the peoples who delight in war.^{[f] 31} Let bronze be brought from Egypt;
    let Ethiopia hasten to stretch out her hands to God.

³² Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth;
    sing praises to the Lord,

³³ to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens;
    lo, he sends forth his voice, his mighty voice. ³⁴ Ascribe power to God,
    whose majesty is over Israel,
    and his power is in the skies. ³⁵ Terrible is God in his^[g] sanctuary,
    the God of Israel,
    he gives power and strength to his people.

² Да восстанет Бог, да рассеет Своих врагов;
    да побегут от Его лица ненавистники Его!
³ Подобно тому, как развеивается дым, развей их!
    Как тает воск от огня,
пусть пропадут нечестивые от лица Божьего.
⁴ А праведные пусть возрадуются,
    пусть веселятся перед лицом Бога и ликуют от радости.

⁵ Пойте Богу! Воспевайте Его Имя!
    Воспойте Того, Кто шествует на облаках!
Господь – Имя Его;
    радуйтесь же пред лицом Его!
⁶ Отец сирот и защитник вдов^[a] –
    Бог в святом жилище Своем.
⁷ Бог дает одиноким дом,

¹⁴ Даже если вы остались у домашнего очага,
    вы будете подобны голубице,
чьи крылья покрыты серебром,
        а перья – чистым золотом».
¹⁵ Когда Всемогущий рассеял царей на этой земле,
    то это было подобно снегу, выпавшему на горе Цалмон.

¹⁶ Гора величественная – гора Башанская;
    гора вершин – гора Башанская!
¹⁷ Вы горы высокие,
    к чему смотрите с завистью на гору, где Бог пожелал жить?
    Господь будет жить на ней вечно!
¹⁸ Колесниц Божьих – десятки тысяч, тысячи тысяч.
    Владыка пришел с Синая в Свое святилище.
¹⁹ Ты поднялся на высоту, пленил пленных,
    и взял дары у людей, даже у непокорных,
чтобы Ты, о Господь Бог,
    мог обитать там^[c].
²⁰ Благословен Владыка!
    Ежедневно Он возлагает на Себя наше бремя;
        Он – Бог, спасающий нас.Пауза
²¹ Бог для нас – Бог спасения,
    и у Господа Владыки избавление от смерти.

²² Да, Бог сокрушит голову Своих врагов,
    волосатую голову разгуливающего в своей виновности.
²³ Владыка сказал: «Возвращу их с Башана,
    извлеку из глубины моря,
²⁴ чтобы ты окунул ноги свои,
    а твои псы – языки свои,
в кровь твоих врагов».

²⁵ Увидели они шествие Твое, Боже –
    шествие моего Бога, Царя моего, в святилище.

    позади – играющие на струнах,
    а в середине – девушки, бьющие в бубны.
²⁷ В собраниях славьте Бога,
    воздайте хвалу Господу в собрании Израиля^[d].

а также правители Завулона и Неффалима.

²⁹ Определил тебе Бог твой быть сильным^[e].
    Яви нам силу Cвою, Боже, как Ты это делал раньше.
³⁰ Ради храма Твоего в Иерусалиме
    цари принесут Тебе дары.
³¹ Укроти зверя^[f], затаившегося в камышах,
    стадо быков среди телят народов.

Genesis 21:1-21 – Revised Standard Version

The Birth of Isaac

The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised.  

² And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. ³ Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac. ⁴ And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. ⁵ Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. ⁶ And Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; every one who hears will laugh over me.” ⁷ And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would suckle children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”

Hagar and Ishmael Sent Away

⁸ And the child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned. ⁹ But Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, playing with her son Isaac.^{[a] 10} So she said to Abraham, “Cast out this slave woman with her son; for the son of this slave woman shall not be heir with my son Isaac.” ¹¹ And the thing was very displeasing to Abraham on account of his son. ¹² But God said to Abraham, “Be not displeased because of the lad and because of your slave woman; whatever Sarah says to you, do as she tells you, for through Isaac shall your descendants be named. ¹³ And I will make a nation of the son of the slave woman also, because he is your offspring.” ¹⁴ So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, along with the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.
¹⁵ When the water in the skin was gone, she cast the child under one of the bushes. ¹⁶ Then she went, and sat down over against him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, “Let me not look upon the death of the child.” And as she sat over against him, the child lifted up his voice^[b] and wept. ¹⁷ And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar? Fear not; for God has heard the voice of the lad where he is. ¹⁸ Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him fast with your hand; for I will make him a great nation.” ¹⁹ Then God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the lad a drink. ²⁰ And God was with the lad, and he grew up; he lived in the wilderness, and became an expert with the bow. ²¹ He lived in the wilderness of Paran; and his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.

Господь, как Он и сказал, был милостив к Сарре и выполнил Свое обещание: ² Сарра забеременела и родила Аврааму сына, когда тот уже состарился, в то самое время, как обещал ему Бог. ³ Авраам дал новорожденному сыну, которого родила ему Сарра, имя Исаак^[a]. ⁴ Когда его сыну Исааку исполнилось восемь дней, Авраам обрезал его, как велел ему Бог. ⁵ Аврааму было сто лет, когда у него родился сын Исаак.

⁶ Сарра сказала:
– Бог заставил меня смеяться; каждый, кто услышит об этом, рассмеется вместе со мной.
⁷ И добавила:
– Кто бы сказал Аврааму, что Сарра будет кормить грудью? Но я родила ему сына в его старости.
⁸ Ребенок вырос и был отнят от груди. В тот день, когда Исаак был отнят от груди, Авраам устроил большой пир.

Изгнание Агари и Измаила

⁹ Сарра увидела, что сын, которого египтянка Агарь родила Аврааму, насмехается над Исааком, ¹⁰ и сказала Аврааму:
– Прогони эту рабыню и ее сына, потому что сын этой рабыни не разделит наследства с моим сыном Исааком.
¹¹ Авраам был сильно огорчен, потому что это был его сын. ¹² Но Бог сказал ему:
– Не огорчайся из-за мальчика и рабыни. Послушайся Сарры и сделай все, как она говорит, потому что через Исаака ты будешь иметь потомство, которое Я тебе обещал. ¹³ Но Я произведу народ и от сына рабыни, потому что и он – твой потомок.
¹⁴ На другой день рано утром Авраам взял еды и бурдюк с водой и дал Агари: положил их ей на плечи и отослал ее прочь вместе с ребенком. Она отправилась в путь и блуждала в пустыне Вирсавии.
¹⁵ Когда вода в бурдюке кончилась, она оставила мальчика под кустом, ¹⁶ и отойдя, села неподалеку, на расстоянии выстрела из лука, потому что думала: «Не стану смотреть, как мальчик умирает». И сидя там неподалеку, она разрыдалась^[b].
¹⁷ Бог услышал плач мальчика и Ангел Бога обратился к Агари с небес и сказал ей:
– Что с тобой, Агарь? Не бойся, Бог услышал, как плачет мальчик там, где он лежит. ¹⁸ Вставай, подними мальчика, и возьми его за руку, потому что Я произведу от него великий народ.
¹⁹ Тут Бог открыл ей глаза, и она увидела колодец с водой. Она пошла, наполнила бурдюк водой и напоила мальчика.
²⁰ Бог был с мальчиком. Измаил вырос, поселился в пустыне и стал стрелком из лука. ²¹ Он жил в пустыне Паран, и мать взяла для него жену из Египта.

Epistle

Hebrews 11:13-22 – Revised Standard Version

These all died in faith, not having received what was promised, but having seen it and greeted it from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. ¹⁴ For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. ¹⁵ If they had been thinking of that land from which they had gone out, they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was ready to offer up his only son, ¹⁸ of whom it was said, “Through Isaac shall your descendants be named.” ¹⁹ He considered that God was able to raise men even from the dead; hence, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back. ²⁰ By faith Isaac invoked future blessings on Jacob and Esau. ²¹ By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff. ²² By faith Joseph, at the end of his life, made mention of the exodus of the Israelites and gave directions concerning his burial.^[a]

 Все эти люди так и умерли, храня веру, не дождавшись того, что им было обещано. Они лишь издали видели и приветствовали все это. Они признавали, что на этой земле они всего лишь пришельцы и странники^[a]. ¹⁴ Те, кто считает себя таковыми, показывают тем самым, что они ищут свою истинную родину. ¹⁵ Если бы они думали лишь о той стране, которую им пришлось покинуть, они могли бы в нее и возвратиться. ¹⁶ Но на самом деле они стремятся к лучшей стране – к небесной. Поэтому Бог не стыдится называться их Богом, ведь Он приготовил для них город.

¹⁷ Верой Авраам, когда Бог испытывал его, принес Исаака в жертву. Ему было дано обещание, и он готов был принести в жертву своего единственного^[b] сына, ¹⁸ и это невзирая на то, что Бог сказал ему: «Через Исаака ты будешь иметь потомство^[c], которое Я тебе обещал»^[d]. ¹⁹ Авраам считал, что Бог может даже воскрешать из мертвых, и, образно говоря, Исаак был действительно возвращен ему из мертвых.

⁴¹ Бывших там иудеев разозлило то, что Иисус сказал: «Я хлеб, пришедший с небес». ⁴² Они говорили:
– Разве Он не Иисус, сын Иосифа? Мы же знаем и отца Его, и мать! Как Он может говорить: «Я пришел с небес»?
⁴³ Иисус сказал:
– Не возмущайтесь. ⁴⁴ Никто не может прийти ко Мне, если Отец, Который послал Меня, не привлечет его, и Я воскрешу его в последний День. ⁴⁵ У пророков записано: «Они будут все научены Богом»^[a]. Каждый, кто слушает Отца и учится у Него, приходит ко Мне.
