Psalm 56 – New Life Version

Prayer of Trust in God

Show me Your loving-kindness, O God, for man has walked on me. All day long the one who tries to keep me down fights with me. ² All day long those who hate me have walked on me. For there are many who fight against me with pride. ³ When I am afraid, I will trust in You. ⁴ I praise the Word of God. I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can only a man do to me? ⁵ All day long they change my words to say what I did not say. They are always thinking of ways to hurt me. ⁶ They go after me as in a fight. They hide themselves. They watch my steps, as they have waited to take my life. ⁷ Because they are bad, do not let them get away. Bring down the people in Your anger, O God.

⁸ You have seen how many places I have gone. Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book? ⁹ Then those who hate me will turn back when I call. I know that God is for me.  

¹⁰ I praise the Word of God. I praise the Word of the Lord. ¹¹ In God I have put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? ¹² I am under an agreement with You, O God. I will give You gifts of thanks. ¹³ For You have set my soul free from death. You have kept my feet from falling, so I may walk with God in the light of life.

Prayer for Help

Show me loving-kindness, O God, show me loving-kindness. For my soul goes to You to be safe. And I will be safe in the shadow of Your wings until the trouble has passed. ² I will cry to God Most High, to God Who finishes all things for me. ³ He will send from heaven and save me. He will put to shame him who is breaking me under his feet. God will send His loving-kindness and His truth.

⁴ My soul is among lions. I must lie among the sons of men who breathe fire, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and whose tongues are a sharp sword. ⁵ Be lifted up above the heavens, O God. Let Your shining-greatness be above all the earth. ⁶ They have set a net for my steps. My soul is brought down. They dug a deep hole in front of me. But they themselves have fallen into it.

⁷ My heart will not be moved, O God. My heart cannot be moved. I will sing, yes, I will sing praises! ⁸ Awake, my shining-greatness. Awake, harps. I will awake early in the morning. ⁹ O Lord, I will give thanks to You among the people. I will sing praises to You among the nations. ¹⁰ For Your loving-kindness is great to the heavens, and Your truth to the clouds. ¹¹ Be lifted up above the heavens, O God. Psalm 58 – New Life Version

Prayer for God to Punish the Sinful

58 Do you speak what is right and good, O you powerful ones? Are you always right in how you judge, O sons of men? ² No, in your heart you do what is wrong. You use your hands to hurt and destroy in the land. ³ The sinful go wrong as soon as they are born. Those who speak lies go the wrong way from birth. ⁴ Their poison is like the poison of a snake. They are like a cobra that cannot or will not listen. ⁵ It does not hear the voice of the man who has power over it, even if the man is very good in his work.

⁶ O God, break the teeth in their mouth. Break out the teeth of the young lions, O Lord. ⁷ Let them flow away like water that pours. When he uses his arrows, let them have no heads.  
⁸ Let them be like a snail that melts away as it goes. Like a baby born dead, may they never see the sun. ⁹ Before your pots can feel the fire of thorns, He will blow them away with a storm, both the green and the burning ones.

¹⁰ The one who is right and good will be full of joy when he sees the sinful punished. He will wash his feet in their blood. ¹¹ And men will say, “For sure there is pay for those who are right and good. For sure there is a God Who says who is guilty or not on the earth.”

Psalm 64 – New Life Version

Prayer for a Safe Place

O God, hear my voice when I complain. Keep my life safe from the fear of those who hate me. ² Hide me from the secret plans of the sinful and from the noise of those who do bad things. ³ They have made their tongues sharp like a sword. They use poison words like arrows. ⁴ They shoot at the man without blame from their hiding place. They are quick to shoot at him and are not afraid. ⁵ They talk each other into doing sinful things. They talk about setting hidden traps. They say, “Who will see them?” ⁶ They think of ways to do bad things, and say, “We have made a perfect plan!” For the inside thoughts and the heart of a man are deep.

⁷ But God will shoot at them with an arrow. They will be hurt very soon. ⁸ They will be made to trip and fall. Their own tongue is against them. All who see them will shake their heads.  

⁹ Then all men will be afraid. They will tell about the work of God. And they will think about what He has done. ¹⁰ The man who is right and good will be glad in the Lord and go to Him to be safe. All those whose hearts are right will give Him praise.

God’s Favor to Earth and Man

All will be quiet before You, and praise belongs to You, O God, in Zion. And our promise to You will be kept. ² O You Who hears prayer, to You all men come. ³ My sins are strong against me. But You forgive our sins. ⁴ Happy is the man You choose and bring near to You to live in Your holy place. We will be filled with the good things of Your house, Your holy house.

⁵ O God Who saves us, You answer us in the way that is right and good by Your great works that make people stand in fear. You are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas. ⁶ You have built the mountains by Your strength. You are dressed with power.  
⁷ You quiet the storm of the seas, the sound of their waves, and the noise of the people.  

⁸ Those who live far away are afraid of Your great works. You make morning and evening call out for joy.

⁹ You visit the earth and water it. You make it very rich. The river of God is full of water. You give the people grain when You have made the earth ready. ¹⁰ You water where the plow has been used. You cover the seeds with earth. You make it soft with rain. And You make the plants grow well. ¹¹ You crown the year with Your good gifts. There is more than enough where You have been. ¹² The fields of the desert are filled with water. And the hills dress themselves with joy. ¹³ The grass lands are covered with birds. And the valleys are covered with grain. They call out for joy and sing.

Genesis 19:1-29 – New Life Version

Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed

The two angels came to Sodom in the evening. Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them. He put his face to the ground ² and said, “My lords, come into the house of your servant. Stay the night, and wash your feet. Then you may rise early and go on your way.” But they said, “No, we will stay the night in the street.” ³ But he begged them, so they turned aside with him and went into his house. And he made a supper for them. He made bread without yeast, and they ate.

⁴ Before they went to bed, all the men of the city of Sodom both young and old gathered around the house. ⁵ They called to Lot, saying, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so we may lie with them.” ⁶ Lot went out the door to the men, and shut the door behind him. ⁷ He said, “My brothers, please do not be so sinful. ⁸ See, I have two daughters who have never had a man. Let me bring them out to you. And do to them whatever you want. But do nothing to these men, for they have come to be safe under my roof.” ⁹ But they said, “Get out of our way. This man came to live here from another land. And already he acts like a judge. Now we will do worse things to you than to them.” So they pushed hard against Lot and almost broke down the door. ¹⁰ But the two men put out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. ¹¹ Then they blinded the men who were at the door of the house, both small and big. So the men became tired trying to find the door.

Lot Leaves Sodom

¹² Then the two men asked Lot, “Do you have any others here? Sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, anyone you have in the city, bring them out of this place. ¹³ For we are about to destroy this place. Because the cry against its people has become so loud to the Lord that the Lord has sent us to destroy it.” ¹⁴ So Lot went out to speak to his sons-in-law who were to marry his daughters. He said, “Get up! Get out of this place! For the Lord will destroy the city!” But his sons-in-law thought he was only joking.

¹⁵ When morning came, the angels told Lot to hurry. They said, “Get up. Take your wife and your two daughters who are here. Or else you will be destroyed when the city is punished.”  

¹⁶ But Lot was slow to move. So the men took him, his wife and two daughters by the hand and brought them out of the city. For the Lord had loving-pity for him. ¹⁷ When they had brought them out of the city, one of them said, “Run for your life! Do not look behind you. Do not stop until you are out of the valley. Run to the mountains or else you will be destroyed.”  

¹⁸ But Lot said to them, “O, no, my lords! ¹⁹ See, your servant has found favor in your eyes. You have shown me great kindness in what you have done for me by saving my life. But I cannot run to the mountains. For I will run into danger and die. ²⁰ See, this town is near enough to run to, and it is small. Let me run there (is it not small?) and my life will be saved.”  
²¹ The angel said to him, “See, I am doing what you ask. I will not destroy this town that you have spoken about. ²² Hurry and run there. For I cannot do anything until you get there.” So the name given to the town was Zoar.

²³ The sun had moved over the earth when Lot came to Zoar. ²⁴ Then the Lord poured fire from the heavens upon Sodom and Gomorrah. ²⁵ He destroyed those cities, and all the valley, and all the people of the cities, and what grew on the ground. ²⁶ But Lot’s wife behind him turned and looked toward the cities. And she was changed into salt.

²⁷ Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord.  

²⁸ He looked down toward Sodom and Gomorrah and toward all the land of the valley. And he saw the smoke of the land going up like the smoke from a place where there is much fire.  
²⁹ But when God destroyed the cities of the valley, He remembered Abraham. He sent Lot out of the center of the danger, when He destroyed the cities where Lot lived.

Но те подумали, что он шутит.

¹⁵ Когда взошла заря, ангелы стали торопить Лота, говоря:

– Торопись! Уводи отсюда свою жену и двух дочерей, а не то ты погибнешь, когда наказание падет на город.

¹⁶ Он медлил, но те двое взяли его за руку, и его жену, и двух дочерей, потому что Господь был к ним милостив, и вывели их за пределы города. ¹⁷ Уже за пределами города один из них сказал:

– Беги отсюда! Не оглядывайся назад и не останавливайся нигде в долине! Беги в горы, а не то ты погибнешь!

¹⁸ Но Лот сказал им:

– Нет, Владыка!^{[b] 19} Слуга Твой^[c] нашел в Твоих глазах расположение, и Ты явил мне великую милость, спасая мою жизнь. Но в горы мне не добежать: бедствие настигнет меня, и я погибну. ²⁰ Вон тот городок недалеко, туда я успею добежать, и он невелик. Позволь мне бежать туда – ведь он совсем мал, не так ли? – и моя жизнь будет спасена.

²¹ Он ответил:

– Хорошо, Я^[d] выполню и эту просьбу: Я не разрушу города, о котором ты говоришь.  

²² Беги туда быстрее, потому что Я ничего не могу сделать, пока ты не доберешься до него. (Вот почему тот город был назван Цоар^[e]).

²³ Солнце уже встало, когда Лот добрался до Цоара. ²⁴ Тогда Господь пролил дождем на Содом и Гоморру горящую серу с небес от Господа. ²⁵ Он разрушил города и всю долину, и всех, кто жил в городах, и все, что росло на земле. ²⁶ А жена Лота оглянулась назад и превратилась в соляной столб.

²⁷ На другое утро Авраам поднялся рано и вернулся к тому месту, где он стоял перед Господом. ²⁸ Он посмотрел на Содом и Гоморру и на всю долину и увидел: густой дым поднимается от земли, как дым из печи.

²⁹ Так, когда Бог уничтожил города долины, Он вспомнил Авраама и спас Лота от бедствия, которое разрушило города, в которых жил Лот.

Hebrews 11:1-12 – New Life Version

Faith

Now faith is being sure we will get what we hope for. It is being sure of what we cannot see.  
² God was pleased with the men who had faith who lived long ago.

³ Through faith we understand that the world was made by the Word of God. Things we see were made from what could not be seen.

⁴ Because Abel had faith, he gave a better gift in worship to God than Cain. His gift pleased God. Abel was right with God. Abel died, but by faith he is still speaking to us.

⁵ Because Enoch had faith, he was taken up from the earth without dying. He could not be found because God had taken him. The Holy Writings tell how he pleased God before he was taken up. ⁶ A man cannot please God unless he has faith. Anyone who comes to God must believe that He is. That one must also know that God gives what is promised to the one who keeps on looking for Him.

⁷ Because Noah had faith, he built a large boat for his family. God told him what was going to happen. His faith made him hear God speak and he obeyed. His family was saved from death because he built the boat. In this way, Noah showed the world how sinful it was. Noah became right with God because of his faith in God.

⁸ Because Abraham had faith, he obeyed God when God called him to leave his home. He was to go to another country that God promised to give him. He left his home without knowing where he was going. ⁹ His faith in God kept him living as a stranger in the country God had promised to him. Isaac and Jacob had received the same promise. They all lived in tents together. ¹⁰ Abraham was looking to God and waiting for a city that could not be moved. It was a city planned and built by God.

¹¹ Because Sarah had faith, she was able to have a child long after she was past the age to have children. She had faith to believe that God would do what He promised. ¹² Abraham was too old to have children. But from this one man came a family with as many in it as the stars in the sky and as many as the sand by the sea.

⁴ Верой Авель принес Богу жертву лучшую, чем Каин. Верой он заслужил одобрение как праведник, когда Бог похвалил его жертву^[a]. И, хотя Авель умер, он благодаря своей вере^[b] все еще говорит.

⁵ Благодаря вере Енох был взят из этого мира, не увидев смерти. Его нигде не могли найти, потому что Бог взял его. Но до того, как он был взят, он заслужил одобрение как человек, угодивший Богу^[c].

⁶ Без веры же Богу угодить невозможно, потому что каждый, кто приходит к Нему, должен верить в то, что Он есть и что Он вознаграждает тех, кто Его ищет.

⁸ Верой Авраам, призванный идти в землю, которую ему было обещано получить в будущем в наследие, подчинился и пошел, хотя он и сам не знал, куда идет^[f]. ⁹ Верой он поселился в обещанной земле как чужеземец, живя в палатках, как и Исаак и Иаков, которые вместе с ним были наследниками согласно тому же обещанию,  
¹⁰ потому что он ожидал города, стоящего на прочных основаниях, архитектор и строитель которого Сам Бог^[g].

¹¹ Верой Авраам стал отцом, хотя и сама Сарра была бесплодна, и он был уже стар, – ведь он полагался на Того, Кто обещал ему^[h]. ¹² И таким образом, от одного человека, тело которого состарилось, произошло столько людей, сколько звезд в небе и сколько песчинок на берегу моря^[i].

John 6:27-40 – New Life Version

Do not work for food that does not last. Work for food that lasts forever. The Son of Man will give you that kind of food. God the Father has shown He will do this.”

²⁸ Then the people said to Him, “What are the works God wants us to do?” ²⁹ Jesus said to them, “This is the work of God, that you put your trust in the One He has sent.” ³⁰ They said to Him, “Can You show us some powerful work? Then we can see it and believe You. What will You do? ³¹ Our early fathers ate bread that came from heaven in the desert. This happened as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

³² Then Jesus said to the people, “For sure, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you bread from heaven. My Father gives you the true Bread from heaven. ³³ The Bread of God is He Who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” ³⁴ They said to Him, “Sir, give us this Bread all the time.”

³⁵ Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry. He who puts his trust in Me will never be thirsty. ³⁶ I said to you that you have seen Me and yet you do not put your trust in Me. ³⁷ All whom My Father has given to Me will come to Me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to Me. ³⁸ I came down from heaven. I did not come to do what I wanted to do. I came to do what My Father wanted Me to do. He is the One Who sent Me.

³⁹ “The Father sent Me. He did not want Me to lose any of all those He gave Me. He wants Me to raise them to life on the last day. ⁴⁰ He wants everyone who sees the Son to put his trust in Him and have life that lasts forever. I will raise that one up on the last day.”

Заботьтесь не о временной пище, а о пище, дающей жизнь вечную, которую Сын Человеческий даст вам. На Нем печать Отца, Бога.

²⁸ Они спросили:

– Что же нам делать, чтобы творить дела, угодные Богу?

²⁹ Иисус ответил:

– Дело, угодное Богу, – это верить в Того, Кого Он послал.

³⁰ Они спросили:

– Какое знамение Ты мог бы нам показать, чтобы мы поверили Тебе? Что Ты можешь сделать? ³¹ Например, отцы наши ели манну^[a] в пустыне, как об этом написано: «Он дал им хлеб с небес»^[b].

³² Иисус сказал им:

– Говорю вам истину, это не Моисей дал вам хлеб с небес, а Мой Отец дает вам истинный хлеб с небес. ³³ Потому что хлеб Божий – это Тот, Кто приходит с небес и дает миру жизнь.

³⁴ Тогда они стали просить Его:

– Господин, давай нам всегда такой хлеб.

³⁵ Иисус сказал:

– Я Сам и есть хлеб жизни. Кто приходит ко Мне, тот никогда не останется голодным, и кто верит Мне, тот не будет испытывать жажды. ³⁶ Но как Я уже говорил вам, вы видели Меня и все равно не верите. ³⁷ Все, кого Отец дал Мне, непременно придут ко Мне, и кто придет ко Мне, того Я никогда не прогоню. ³⁸ Ведь Я пришел с небес не для того, чтобы делать то, что Сам хочу, но чтобы исполнять волю Того, Кто послал Меня.  

³⁹ А воля Пославшего Меня заключается в том, чтобы Я не потерял никого из тех, кого Он Мне дал, но чтобы в последний День Я воскресил их. ⁴⁰ Воля Моего Отца заключается в том, чтобы каждый, кто видит Сына и верит в Него, имел жизнь вечную, и Я воскрешу его в последний День.
