Adonai is king, let the earth rejoice,
let the many coasts and islands be glad.
² Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. ³ Fire goes before him, setting ablaze his foes on every side. ⁴ His flashes of lightning light up the world; the earth sees it and trembles. ⁵ The mountains melt like wax at the presence of Adonai, at the presence of the Lord of all the earth. ⁶ The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the peoples see his glory.

⁷ All who worship images will be put to shame,
those who make their boast in worthless idols.
Bow down to him, all you gods!
⁸ Tziyon hears and is glad, Adonai; the daughters of Y’hudah rejoice at your rulings. ⁹ For you, Adonai, most high over all the earth, you are exalted far above all gods.

¹⁰ You who love Adonai, hate evil!
He keeps his faithful servants safe.
He rescues them from the power of the wicked.
¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous and joy for the upright in heart. ¹² Rejoice in Adonai, you righteous; and give thanks on recalling his holiness.

Adonai is king; let the peoples tremble.
He sits enthroned on the k’ruvim; let the earth shake!
² Adonai is great in Tziyon; he is high above all the peoples.

³ Let them praise your great and fearsome name (he is holy):
⁴ “Mighty king who loves justice, you established fairness, justice and righteousness in Ya‘akov.”

⁵ Exalt Adonai our God!
Prostrate yourselves at his footstool (he is holy).

⁶ Moshe and Aharon among his cohanim
and Sh’mu’el among those who call on his name
called on Adonai, and he answered them.
⁷ He spoke to them in the column of cloud; they kept his instructions and the law that he gave them. ⁸ Adonai our God, you answered them. To them you were a forgiving God, although you took vengeance on their wrongdoings.

God of vengeance, Adonai!
God of vengeance, appear!
² Assert yourself as judge of the earth! Pay back the proud as they deserve!

³ How long are the wicked, Adonai,
how long are the wicked to triumph?
⁴ They pour out insolent words, they go on bragging, all these evildoers.

⁵ They crush your people, Adonai,
they oppress your heritage.
⁶ They kill widows and strangers and murder the fatherless.

⁷ They say, “Yah isn’t looking;
the God of Ya‘akov won’t notice.”
⁸ Take notice, yourselves, you boors among the people! You fools, when will you understand? ⁹ Will the one who planted the ear not hear? Will the one who formed the eye not see? ¹⁰ Will the one who disciplines nations not correct them? Will the teacher of humanity not know? ¹¹ Adonai understands that people’s thoughts are merely a puff of wind.

¹² How happy the man whom you correct, Yah,
whom you teach from your Torah,
¹³ giving him respite from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked! ¹⁴ For Adonai will not desert his people, he will not abandon his heritage. ¹⁵ Justice will once again become righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it.

¹⁶ Who will champion my cause against the wicked?
Who will stand up for me against evildoers?

¹⁷ If Adonai hadn’t helped me,
I would soon have dwelt in the land of silence.
¹⁸ When I said, “My foot is slipping!” your grace, Adonai, supported me. ¹⁹ When my cares within me are many, your comforts cheer me up.

²⁰ Can unjust judges be allied with you,
those producing wrong in the name of law?
²¹ They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.

²² But Adonai has become my stronghold,
my God is my rock of refuge.
²³ But he repays them as their guilt deserves; he will cut them off with their own evil; Adonai our God will cut them off.

⁴ He holds the depths of the earth in his hands; the mountain peaks too belong to him. ⁵ The sea is his — he made it — and his hands shaped the dry land.

⁶ Come, let’s bow down and worship;
let’s kneel before Adonai who made us.

If only today you would listen to his voice:

But then he heard what Lavan’s sons were saying: “Ya‘akov has taken away everything that our father once had. It’s from what used to belong to our father that he has gotten so rich.” ² He also saw that Lavan regarded him differently than before. ³ Adonai said to Ya‘akov, “Return to the land of your ancestors, to your kinsmen; I will be with you.” ⁴ So Ya‘akov sent for Rachel and Le’ah and had them come to the field where his flock was. ⁵ He said to them, “I see by the way your father looks that he feels differently toward me than before; but the God of my father has been with me. ⁶ You know that I have served your father with all my strength, ⁷ and that your father has belittled me and has changed my wages ten times; but God did not allow him to do me any damage. ⁸ If he said, ‘The speckled will be your wages,’ then all the animals gave birth to speckled young; and if he said, ‘The streaked will be your wages,’ then all the animals gave birth to streaked young. ⁹ This is how God has taken away your father’s animals and given them to me. ¹⁰ Once, when the animals were mating, I had a dream: I looked up and there in front of me the male goats which mated with the females were streaked, speckled and mottled. ¹¹ Then, in the dream, the angel of God said to me, ‘Ya‘akov!’ and I replied, ‘Here I am.’ ¹² He continued, ‘Raise your eyes now, and look: all the male goats mating with the females are streaked, speckled and mottled; for I have seen everything Lavan has been doing to you. ¹³ I am the God of Beit-El, where you anointed a standing-stone with oil, where you vowed your vow to me. ¹⁹ Now Lavan had gone to shear his sheep, so Rachel stole the household idols that belonged to her father, ²⁰ and Ya‘akov outwitted Lavan the Arami by not telling him of his intended flight. ²¹ So he fled with everything he had: he departed, crossed the [Euphrates] River and set out for the hill-country of Gil‘ad. ²² Not until the third day was Lavan told that Ya‘akov had fled.

My children, I am writing you these things so that you won’t sin. But if anyone does sin, we have Yeshua the Messiah, the Tzaddik, who pleads our cause with the Father. ² Also, he is the kapparah for our sins — and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.

³ The way we can be sure we know him is if we are obeying his commands. ⁴ Anyone who says, “I know him,” but isn’t obeying his commands is a liar — the truth is not in him. ⁵ But if someone keeps doing what he says, then truly love for God has been brought to its goal in him. This is how we are sure that we are united with him. ⁶ A person who claims to be continuing in union with him ought to conduct his life the way he did.

⁷ Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command. On the contrary, it is an old command, which you have had from the beginning; the old command is the message which you have heard before. ⁸ Yet I am writing you a new command, and its reality is seen both in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. ⁹ Anyone who claims to be in this light while hating his brother is still in the dark. ¹⁰ The person who keeps loving his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him that could make him trip. ¹¹ But the person who hates his brother is in the dark — yes, he is walking in the dark, and he doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

 The Judeans, however, were unwilling to believe that he had formerly been blind, but now could see, until they had summoned the man’s parents. ¹⁹ They asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?” ²⁰ His parents answered, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind; ²¹ but how it is that he can see now, we don’t know; nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him — he’s old enough, he can speak for himself!” ²² The parents said this because they were afraid of the Judeans, for the Judeans had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged Yeshua as the Messiah would be banned from the synagogue. ²³ This is why his parents said, “He’s old enough, ask him.”

²⁴ So a second time they called the man who had been blind; and they said to him, “Swear to God that you will tell the truth! We know that this man is a sinner.” ²⁵ He answered, “Whether he’s a sinner or not I don’t know. One thing I do know: I was blind, now I see.” ²⁶ So they said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” ²⁷ “I already told you,” he answered, “and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? ²⁵ Исцеленный ответил:

– Грешник Он или нет, я не знаю. Я знаю одно, что я был слеп, а сейчас вижу!

²⁶ Они спросили:

– Что Он с тобой сделал? Как Он открыл твои глаза?

²⁷ Он ответил:

– Я уже говорил вам, а вы не слушали. Зачем вы хотите еще раз это услышать? Вы тоже хотите стать Его учениками?

²⁸ Они стали оскорблять его и сказали:

– Сам ты Его ученик! Мы ученики Моисея! ²⁹ Мы знаем, что с Моисеем говорил Бог, а об Этом Человеке мы даже не знаем, откуда Он.

³⁰ Исцеленный ответил:

– Вот это-то и странно! Вы не знаете, откуда Он, а Он открыл мне глаза.  

³¹ Мы знаем, что Бог грешников не слушает. Он слушает только тех, кто чтит Его и поступает по Его воле. ³² Ведь испокон веков никто не слышал, чтобы у рожденного слепым открылись глаза^[b]. ³³ Если бы Этот Человек не был от Бога, то Он не смог бы сделать ничего такого.

³⁴ Они на это ответили:

– Ты был рожден в грехах, как ты смеешь нас учить!

И они выгнали его вон.

Иисус говорит о духовной слепоте

³⁵ Иисус услышал о том, что фарисеи выгнали его вон, нашел его и спросил:

– Ты веришь в Сына Человеческого?

³⁶ – А кто Он, Господин? – спросил исцеленный. – Скажи мне, чтобы я в Него поверил.

³⁷ Иисус сказал:

– Ты сейчас Его видишь, Он говорит с тобой.

³⁸ Тогда человек ответил:

– Господи, я верю, – и поклонился Иисусу.

³⁹ Иисус сказал:

– Я пришел в этот мир для суда, чтобы слепые видели, а те, кто видят, – стали слепыми.

⁴⁰ Фарисеи, которые были с Ним, слышали это и спросили:

– Что? Мы, значит, тоже слепы?

⁴¹ Иисус сказал:

– Если бы вы были слепы, то греха не было бы на вас, но так как вы заявляете, что видите, то грех ваш на вас остается.
