you have been our refuge throughout every generation.
2 Before the mountains were born,
before you gave birth to the earth and the world, you were El.

Jacob’s [Israel’s] Last Days in Egypt
27 So the
Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property
there and had many children.
28 Jacob
lived in Egypt 17 years, so he lived a total of 147 years. 29 Israel was about to die. He called for his son
Joseph and said to him, “I want you to swear that you love me and are faithful
to me. Please don’t bury me here. 30 I
want to rest with my ancestors. Take me out of Egypt, and bury me in their
tomb.”“I will do as you say,” Joseph answered.
31 “Swear to me,” he said. So Joseph swore to him. Then Israel bowed down in prayer with his face at the head of his bed.

Joseph was told, “Your father is ill.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and

a permanent possession.’5 “So your two sons, who were born in Egypt before I came here, are my sons. Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine just as Reuben and Simeon are. 6 Any other children you have after them will be yours. They will inherit the land listed under their brothers’ names. 7 As I was coming back from Paddan, Rachel died in Canaan when we were still some distance from Ephrath. Learn from What Happened in the Time of Moses
I want
you to know, brothers and sisters, that all our ancestors who left Egypt were
under the cloud, and they all went through the sea. 2 They
were all united with Moses by baptism in the cloud and in the sea. 3 All of them ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all of them drank the same spiritual drink.
They drank from the spiritual rock that went with them, and that rock was
Christ. 5 Yet, God was not pleased
with most of them, so their dead bodies were scattered over the desert.
6 These
things have become examples for us so that we won’t desire what is evil, as
they did. 7 So don’t worship false
gods as some of them did, as Scripture says, “The people sat down to a feast
which turned into an orgy.” 8 We
shouldn’t sin sexually as some of them did. Twenty-three thousand of them died
on one day. 9 We shouldn’t put the
Lord[a] to the test as some of
them did. They were killed by snakes. 10 Don’t
complain as some of them did. The angel of death destroyed them. 11 These things happened to make them an example for
others. These things were written down as a warning for us who are living in
the closing days of history. 12 So,
people who think they are standing firmly should be careful that they don’t
fall.13 There isn’t any temptation that you have experienced which is unusual for humans. God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist. But when you are tempted, he will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape.

Jesus Challenges the Pharisees’ Traditions
7 The
Pharisees and some experts in Moses’ Teachings who had come from Jerusalem
gathered around Yeshua. 2 They
saw that some of his disciples were unclean[a] because they ate without
washing their hands.
3 (The
Pharisees, like all other Jewish people, don’t eat unless they have properly
washed their hands. They follow the traditions of their ancestors. 4 When they come from the marketplace, they don’t
eat unless they have washed first. They have been taught to follow many other
rules. For example, they must also wash their cups, jars, brass pots, and
dinner tables.[b])5 The Pharisees and the experts in Moses’ Teachings asked Yeshua, “Why don’t your disciples follow the traditions taught by our ancestors? They are unclean because they don’t wash their hands before they eat!”
6 Yeshua told them, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites in Scripture:
‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 Their worship of me is pointless,
because their teachings are rules made by humans.’

8 “You abandon the commandments of God to follow human traditions.” 9 He added, “You have no trouble rejecting the
commandments of God in order to keep your own traditions! 10 For example, Moses said, ‘Honor your father and
your mother’ and ‘Whoever curses father or mother must be put to death.’ 11 But you say, ‘If a person tells his father or
mother that whatever he might have used to help them is corban (that is,
an offering to God), 12 he no
longer has to do anything for his father or mother.’ 13 Because of your traditions you have destroyed the
authority of God’s word. And you do many other things like that.”
14 Then he
called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, all of you, and try to
understand! 15 Nothing that goes
into a person from the outside can make him unclean. It’s what comes out of a
person that makes him unclean. 16 Let
the person who has ears listen!”[c]17 When he had left the people and gone home, his disciples asked him about this illustration.
18 Yeshua said to them, “Don’t you understand? Don’t you know that whatever goes into a person from the outside can’t make him unclean? 19 It doesn’t go into his thoughts but into his stomach and then into a toilet.” (By saying this, Yeshua declared all foods acceptable.) 20 He continued, “It’s what comes out of a person that makes him unclean. 21 Evil thoughts, sexual sins, stealing, murder, 22 adultery, greed, wickedness, cheating, shameless lust, envy, cursing, arrogance, and foolishness come from within a person. 23 All these evils come from within and make a person unclean.”

вы установили, и многое, подобное этому, вы делаете.
14 Иисус снова подозвал к Себе народ и сказал:– Выслушайте Меня все и постарайтесь понять. 15 Ничто из того, что входит в человека извне, не может осквернить его. Оскверняет человека то, что исходит из него. 16 Если у кого есть уши, чтобы слышать, пусть слышит[f].
17 Когда Иисус оставил толпу и вошел в дом, ученики спросили Его об этой притче.
18 – Так и вы тоже не понимаете? – сказал Он им. – Неужели вы не понимаете, что все, что входит в человека извне, не может осквернить его? 19 Оно входит не в сердце человека, а в его желудок, а потом выходит вон. (Так Он объявил чистой любую пищу.) 20 Но то, что исходит из человека, – продолжал Он, – вот это и оскверняет его. 21 Потому что изнутри, из сердца человека, исходят злые мысли, разврат, воровство, убийство, 22 супружеская неверность, жадность, злоба, коварство, распутство, зависть[g], кощунство, надменность и безрассудство. 23 Все это зло исходит изнутри, и именно оно оскверняет человека.
