¹ Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights!
² Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his host!

³ Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars!
⁴ Praise him, you highest heavens,
    and you waters above the heavens!

⁵ Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for he commanded and they were created.
⁶ He established them forever and ever;
    he fixed their bounds, which cannot be passed.^[a]

Praise for God’s Goodness to Israel

¹ Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
    his praise in the assembly of the faithful.
² Let Israel be glad in its Maker;
    let the children of Zion rejoice in their King.
³ Let them praise his name with dancing,
    making melody to him with tambourine and lyre.
⁴ For the Lord takes pleasure in his people;
    he adorns the humble with victory.
⁵ Let the faithful exult in glory;
    let them sing for joy on their couches.
⁶ Let the high praises of God be in their throats
    and two-edged swords in their hands,
⁷ to execute vengeance on the nations
    and punishment on the peoples,
⁸ to bind their kings with fetters
    and their nobles with chains of iron,
⁹ to execute on them the judgment decreed.
    This is glory for all his faithful ones.

God’s Wonders at the Exodus

¹ When Israel went out from Egypt,
    the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
² Judah became God’s^[a] sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.

³ The sea looked and fled;
    Jordan turned back.
⁴ The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

⁵ Why is it, O sea, that you flee?
    O Jordan, that you turn back?
⁶ O mountains, that you skip like rams?
    O hills, like lambs?

⁷ Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
    at the presence of the God of Jacob,
⁸ who turns the rock into a pool of water,
    the flint into a spring of water.

Psalm 115

The Impotence of Idols and the Greatness of God

¹ Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
    for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness.
² Why should the nations say,
    “Where is their God?”

³ Our God is in the heavens;
    he does whatever he pleases.
⁴ Their idols are silver and gold,
    the work of human hands.
⁵ They have mouths, but do not speak;
    eyes, but do not see.
⁶ They have ears, but do not hear;
    noses, but do not smell.
⁷ They have hands, but do not feel;
    feet, but do not walk;
    they make no sound in their throats.
⁸ Those who make them are like them;

Proverbs 26:1-23 -- New Revised Standard Version

Like snow in summer or rain in harvest,
    so honor is not fitting for a fool.
² Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,
    an undeserved curse goes nowhere. ³ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,
    and a rod for the back of fools. ⁴ Do not answer fools according to their folly,
    or you will be a fool yourself. ⁵ Answer fools according to their folly,
    or they will be wise in their own eyes. ⁶ It is like cutting off one’s foot and drinking down violence,
    to send a message by a fool. ⁷ The legs of a disabled person hang limp;
    so does a proverb in the mouth of a fool. ⁸ It is like binding a stone in a sling
    to give honor to a fool. ⁹ Like a thornbush brandished by the hand of a drunkard
    is a proverb in the mouth of a fool. ¹⁰ Like an archer who wounds everybody
    is one who hires a passing fool or drunkard.^{[a] 11} Like a dog that returns to its vomit
    is a fool who reverts to his folly. ¹² Do you see persons wise in their own eyes?
    There is more hope for fools than for them. ¹³ The lazy person says, “There is a lion in the road!
    There is a lion in the streets!” ¹⁴ As a door turns on its hinges,
    so does a lazy person in bed. ¹⁵ The lazy person buries a hand in the dish,
    and is too tired to bring it back to the mouth. ¹⁶ The lazy person is wiser in self-esteem
    than seven who can answer discreetly. ¹⁷ Like somebody who takes a passing dog by the ears
    is one who meddles in the quarrel of another. ¹⁸ Like a maniac who shoots deadly firebrands and arrows, ¹⁹ so is one who deceives a neighbor
    and says, “I am only joking!” ²⁰ For lack of wood the fire goes out,
    and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases. ²¹ As charcoal is to hot embers and wood to fire,
    so is a quarrelsome person for kindling strife. ²² The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels;
    they go down into the inner parts of the body. ²³ Like the glaze^[b] covering an earthen vessel

Now if the ministry of death, chiseled in letters on stone tablets,^[a] came in glory so that the people of Israel could not gaze at Moses’ face because of the glory of his face, a glory now set aside, ⁸ how much more will the ministry of the Spirit come in glory? ⁹ For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, much more does the ministry of justification abound in glory! ¹⁰ Indeed, what once had glory has lost its glory because of the greater glory; ¹¹ for if what was set aside came through glory, much more has the permanent come in glory!
¹² Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness, ¹³ not like Moses, who put a veil over his face to keep the people of Israel from gazing at the end of the glory that^[b] was being set aside. ¹⁴ But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside. ¹⁵ Indeed, to this very day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their minds; ¹⁶ but when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. ¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. ¹⁸ And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.

Вспомните служение высеченному буквами на камнях Закону, которое принесло смерть. Оно было учреждено в такой славе, что израильтяне не могли смотреть на сияющее лицо Моисея, хотя это сияние постепенно затухало^[a]. Если это служение пришло в такой славе, ⁸ то разве не будет еще славнее служение Духа? ⁹ Если служение, которое осуждает человека, было окружено такой славой, то насколько же большей славой наделено служение, несущее человеку оправдание! ¹⁰ То, что было окружено славой тогда, кажется уже не таким славным по сравнению с гораздо большей славой. ¹¹ И если временное было окружено славой, то насколько же славнее будет вечное!

Peter’s Declaration about Jesus

¹⁸ Once when Jesus^[a] was praying alone, with only the disciples near him, he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?” ¹⁹ They answered, “John the Baptist; but others, Elijah; and still others, that one of the ancient prophets has arisen.” ²⁰ He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Messiah^[b] of God.”

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

²¹ He sternly ordered and commanded them not to tell anyone, ²² saying, “The Son of Man must undergo great suffering, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.”
²³ Then he said to them all, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. ²⁴ For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. ²⁵ What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves? ²⁶ Those who are ashamed of me and of my words, of them the Son of Man will be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

– За кого принимает Меня народ?
¹⁹ Они ответили:
– За Иоанна Крестителя; другие же говорят, что Ты Илия, а третьи – что один из других древних пророков ожил.
²⁰ – А вы кем считаете Меня? – спросил их Иисус.
– Божьим Христом^[a], – ответил Петр.

Иисус впервые говорит о Своей смерти и воскресении

(Мат. 16:21-23; Мк. 8:31-33)

²¹ Но Иисус строго велел им никому не говорить об этом, ²² сказав:
– Сыну Человеческому должно много пострадать и быть отвергнутым старейшинами, первосвященниками и учителями Закона. Он должен быть убит, но на третий день воскреснет.

Что значит быть последователем Иисуса?

²³ Потом Иисус сказал им:
– Если кто желает быть Моим последователем, пусть отречется от самого себя и, изо дня в день беря свой крест, следует за Мной. ²⁴ Потому что тот, кто хочет сберечь свою жизнь, потеряет ее, а кто потеряет свою жизнь ради Меня, тот спасет ее. ²⁵ Ведь что пользы человеку, если он приобретет весь мир, но при этом погубит самого себя или повредит себе? ²⁶ Кто постыдится Меня и Моих слов, того постыдится и Сын Человеческий, когда придет в Своей славе и в славе Отца и святых ангелов. ²⁷ Говорю вам истину, некоторые из вас, стоящих здесь, не умрут, пока не увидят Божьего Царства.
