Look at the Evidence
15-17 Clearly, you are a God who works behind the scenes,
God of Israel, Savior God.
Humiliated, all those others
will be ashamed to show their faces in public.
Out of work and at loose ends, the makers of no-god idols
won’t know what to do with themselves.
The people of Israel, though, are saved by you, God,
saved with an eternal salvation.
They won’t be ashamed,
they won’t be at loose ends, ever.

1:24-2:7 – The Message
24-25 I want you to know how glad I am that it’s me sitting here in this jail
and not you. There’s a lot of suffering to be entered into in this world—the
kind of suffering Christ takes on. I welcome the chance to take my share in the
church’s part of that suffering. When I became a servant in this church, I
experienced this suffering as a sheer gift, God’s way of helping me serve you,
laying out the whole truth.
26-29 This mystery has been kept in the dark for a long time, but now it’s out in the open. God wanted everyone, not just Jews, to know this rich and glorious secret inside and out, regardless of their background, regardless of their religious standing. The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. Christ! No more, no less. That’s what I’m working so hard at day after day, year after year, doing my best with the energy God so generously gives me.
2 I want you to realize that I continue to work as hard as I know how for
you, and also for the Christians over at Laodicea. Not many of you have met me
face-to-face, but that doesn’t make any difference. Know that I’m on your side,
right alongside you. You’re not in this alone.
2-4 I want you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God’s great mystery. All the richest treasures of wisdom and knowledge are embedded in that mystery and nowhere else. And we’ve been shown the mystery! I’m telling you this because I don’t want anyone leading you off on some wild-goose chase, after other so-called mysteries, or “the Secret.”
5 I’m a long way off, true, and you may never lay eyes on me, but believe me, I’m on your side, right beside you. I am delighted to hear of the careful and orderly ways you conduct your affairs, and impressed with the solid substance of your faith in Christ.
From the Shadows to the Substance
6-7 My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with
what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live
him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know
your way around the faith. Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s out; quit
studying the subject and start living it! And let your living spill over
into thanksgiving.

Jesus once again addressed
them: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the
darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.”

“All we have is your word on this. We need more than this to go on.”
14-18 Jesus replied, “You’re
right that you only have my word. But you can depend on it being true. I know
where I’ve come from and where I go next. You don’t know where I’m from or
where I’m headed. You decide according to what you can see and touch. I don’t
make judgments like that. But even if I did, my judgment would be true because
I wouldn’t make it out of the narrowness of my experience but in the largeness
of the One who sent me, the Father. That fulfills the conditions set down in
God’s Law: that you can count on the testimony of two witnesses. And that is
what you have: You have my word and you have the word of the Father who sent
me.”

Вы же не имеете никакого понятия ни о том, откуда Я пришел, ни о том, куда Я иду. 15 Вы судите по человеческим меркам, Я же не сужу никого. 16 Но если Я и сужу, Мой суд справедлив, потому что Я не один, со Мной Отец, Который послал Меня. 17 В вашем же Законе написано, что когда свидетельствуют двое, то их свидетельство имеет силу[b]. 18 О Себе свидетельствую Я Сам и Мой Отец, Который послал Меня.
19 Они тогда спросили:
– Где же Твой Отец?
Иисус ответил:
– Вы не знаете ни Меня, ни Моего Отца. Если бы вы знали Меня, вы бы знали и Моего Отца.
