1 O come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;

Concerning
this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours
made careful search and inquiry, 11 inquiring
about the person or time that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when
it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the
subsequent glory. 12 It was
revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to
the things that have now been announced to you through those who brought you
good news by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to
look!A Call to Holy Living
13 Therefore prepare your minds for action;[a] discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed. 14 Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. 15 Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”17 If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live in reverent fear during the time of your exile. 18 You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. 20 He was destined before the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake.

The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
18 After
Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the Kidron
valley to a place where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered.
2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew
the place, because Jesus often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas brought a detachment of soldiers
together with police from the chief priests and the Pharisees, and they came
there with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Then Jesus, knowing all that was to happen to
him, came forward and asked them, “Whom are you looking for?” 5 They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.”[a] Jesus replied, “I am he.”[b] Judas, who betrayed him,
was standing with them. 6 When

Jesus before the High Priest
12 So the soldiers, their officer, and the Jewish police arrested Jesus and bound him. 13 First they took him to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year.14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it was better to have one person die for the people.
Peter Denies Jesus
15 Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, 16 but Peter was standing outside at the gate. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, spoke to the woman who guarded the gate, and brought Peter in. 17 The woman said to Peter, “You are not also one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” 18 Now the slaves and the police had made a charcoal fire because it was cold, and they were standing around it and warming themselves. Peter also was standing with them and warming himself.The High Priest Questions Jesus
19 Then the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his teaching.20 Jesus answered, “I have spoken openly to the world; I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all the Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret. 21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who heard what I said to them; they know what I said.” 22 When he had said this, one of the police standing nearby struck Jesus on the face, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?” 23 Jesus answered, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify to the wrong. But if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
Peter Denies Jesus Again
25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They asked him, “You are not also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” 26 One of the slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?” 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment the cock crowed.Jesus before Pilate
28 Then they took Jesus from Caiaphas to Pilate’s headquarters.[g] It was early in the morning. They themselves did not enter the headquarters,[h] so as to avoid ritual defilement and to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate went out to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered, “If this man were not a criminal, we would not have handed him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him according to your law.” The Jews replied, “We are not permitted to put anyone to death.” 32 (This was to fulfill what Jesus had said when he indicated the kind of death he was to die.)33 Then Pilate entered the headquarters[i] again, summoned Jesus, and asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Do you ask this on your own, or did others tell you about me?” 35 Pilate replied, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests have handed you over to me. What have you done?” 36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not from this world. If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” 37 Pilate asked him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” 38 Pilate asked him, “What is truth?”
Jesus Sentenced to Death
After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no case against him. 39 But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover. Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?” 40 They shouted in reply, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a bandit.
19 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2 And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put
it on his head, and they dressed him in a purple robe. 3 They kept coming up to him, saying, “Hail, King
of the Jews!” and striking him on the face. 4 Pilate
went out again and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you
know that I find no case against him.” 5 So
Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to
them, “Here is the man!” 6 When
the chief priests and the police saw him, they shouted, “Crucify him! Crucify
him!” Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and crucify him; I find no case
against him.” 7 The Jews answered
him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has
claimed to be the Son of God.”
8 Now when Pilate heard this, he was more afraid than ever. 9 He entered his headquarters[j] again and asked Jesus, “Where are you from?” But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 Pilate therefore said to him, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to release you, and power to crucify you?” 11 Jesus answered him, “You would have no power over me unless it had been given you from above; therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” 12 From then on Pilate tried to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are no friend of the emperor. Everyone who claims to be a king sets himself against the emperor.”
13 When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus outside and sat[k] on the judge’s bench at a place called The Stone Pavement, or in Hebrew[l] Gabbatha. 14 Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover; and it was about noon. He said to the Jews, “Here is your King!”
15 They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” Pilate asked them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but the emperor.” 16 Then he handed him over to them to be crucified.
The Crucifixion of Jesus
So they took Jesus; 17 and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew[m] is called Golgotha. 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them. 19 Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth,[n] the King of the Jews.” 20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew,[o] in Latin, and in Greek. 21 Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.” 23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took his tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. 24 So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see who will get it.” This was to fulfill what the scripture says,
“They divided my clothes among themselves,
and for my clothing they cast lots.”

25 And that is what the soldiers did.
Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.”
27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
28 After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Jesus’ Side Is Pierced
31 Since it was the day of Preparation, the Jews did not want the bodies left on the cross during the sabbath, especially because that sabbath was a day of great solemnity. So they asked Pilate to have the legs of the crucified men broken and the bodies removed. 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who had been crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out. 35 (He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. His testimony is true, and he knows[p] that he tells the truth.) 36 These things occurred so that the scripture might be fulfilled, “None of his bones shall be broken.” 37 And again another passage of scripture says, “They will look on the one whom they have pierced.”The Burial of Jesus

22 Когда Иисус это сказал, один из стоящих поблизости служителей ударил Иисуса по лицу.
– Ты как разговариваешь с первосвященником! – возмутился он.
23 – Если Я сказал что-то не так, то укажи, что не так, – ответил Иисус. – Если же Я прав, то зачем ты бьешь Меня?
24 Анна отослал Иисуса связанным к первосвященнику Кайафе.
Второе и третье отречение Петра

25 Симон Петр все стоял и грелся у костра, когда его еще раз спросили:– Ты случайно не один из Его учеников?
Петр отрицал.

28 От Кайафы Иисуса повели в резиденцию наместника. Было раннее утро, и иудеи, опасаясь оскверниться, не вошли в здание, иначе они не смогли бы потом есть пасхальный ужин[e]. 29 Поэтому Пилат[f] вышел к ним.– В чем вы обвиняете Этого Человека? – спросил он.
30 – Не будь Он преступником, мы бы не привели Его к тебе, – ответили они.
31 Пилат сказал:
– Берите Его сами и судите по вашему Закону.
– Но у нас нет права никого казнить, – возразили иудеи.
32 Так должны были исполниться слова Иисуса о том, какой смертью Он умрет[g].
33 Тогда Пилат вошел внутрь своей резиденции, вызвал Иисуса и спросил Его:
– Ты Царь иудеев?
34 – Ты это от себя говоришь, или тебе обо Мне сказали другие? – спросил в ответ Иисус.
35 – Я что, иудей? – ответил Пилат. – Это Твой народ и первосвященники передали Тебя мне. Что Ты сделал?
36 Иисус сказал:
– Царство Мое – не одно из царств этого мира. Если бы оно было таким, то Мои подданные сражались бы за Меня, чтобы Я не был передан иудеям. Но сейчас Мое Царство не отсюда.
37 – Так значит, Ты все-таки Царь? – спросил Пилат.
– Ты сам говоришь, что Я Царь, – ответил Иисус. – Я родился и пришел в мир, чтобы свидетельствовать об истине. Всякий, кто на стороне истины, слушает Меня.
38 Пилат спросил:
– Что есть истина?
Потом он опять вышел к иудеям и сказал:
– Я не нахожу в Нем никакой вины.
Пилат осуждает Иисуса на распятие
(Мат. 27:15-31; Мк. 15:6-20; Лк. 23:13-25)
39 – У вас есть обычай, чтобы я на Пасху отпускал на свободу одного из заключенных. Хотите, чтобы я отпустил вам «Царя иудеев»?40 Они в ответ закричали:
– Нет! Не Его! Отпусти нам Варавву![h]
Варавва же был мятежником[i].
19 Тогда Пилат приказал бичевать Иисуса. 2 Солдаты сплели венок из терновника и надели Ему на
голову. Они одели Его в пурпурную мантию, 3 подходили к Нему, говоря:
– Да здравствует Царь иудеев! – и били Его по лицу.
4 Пилат вышел еще раз и сказал им:
– Смотрите! Вот, я вывожу Его еще раз, чтобы вы убедились, что я не нахожу в Нем никакой вины.
5 – Вот Человек, – сказал Пилат, когда Иисус вышел в терновом венке и в пурпурной мантии.
6 Как только первосвященники и стража увидели Его, они закричали:
– Распни! Распни Его!
Но Пилат ответил:
– Берите Его сами и распинайте, я же не нахожу в Нем никакой вины.
7 Иудеи настаивали:
– У нас есть Закон, и по нашему Закону Он должен умереть, потому что называет
Себя Сыном Бога![j]
8 Услышав это, Пилат еще больше испугался. 9 Он опять вошел во дворец и спросил Иисуса:
– Откуда Ты?
Но Иисус не отвечал ему.
10 – Ты что, отказываешься говорить со мной? – сказал Пилат. – Неужели Ты не понимаешь, что у меня есть власть освободить Тебя или распять!
11 Иисус ответил:
– У тебя не было бы надо Мной никакой власти, если бы она не была дана тебе свыше. Поэтому на том, кто передал Меня тебе[k], больший грех.
12 С этого момента Пилат искал возможности освободить Иисуса, но иудеи продолжали кричать:
– Если ты отпустишь Его, то ты не друг кесарю. Каждый, кто заявляет, что он царь, – враг кесарю!
13 Когда Пилат это услышал, он вывел Иисуса, сел в судейское кресло на месте, называемом Каменный Помост, а на еврейском[l] языке Габбата. 14 Была пятница перед Пасхой, и час шестой[m].
– Вот ваш Царь, – сказал Пилат иудеям.
15 Они закричали:
– Уведи Его вон! Вон! Распни Его!
– Распять вашего Царя? – спросил Пилат.
– У нас нет царя, кроме кесаря, – отвечали первосвященники.
16 Тогда Пилат отдал им Иисуса на распятие.
Они взяли Иисуса и повели. 17 Неся Свой крест, Иисус пошел на место, называемое Лобным[n], а на еврейском[o] языке – Голгофа[p].
Иисус на кресте
(Мат. 27:33-44; Мк. 15:24-32; Лк. 23:33-43)
18 Там Иисуса распяли, а с Ним, по обе стороны, еще двоих; Иисус был посередине.19 Пилат приказал прикрепить на кресте табличку с надписью: «ИИСУС НАЗАРЯНИН – ЦАРЬ ИУДЕЕВ». 20 Надпись эту читало много иудеев, так как место распятия Иисуса было близко к городу, а написано было по-еврейски[q], по-латыни и по-гречески.
21 Начальники иудеев возразили Пилату:
– Напиши не «Царь иудеев»[r], а что Он заявляет, будто Он Царь иудеев.
22 – Что я написал, то написал, – ответил Пилат.
23 Когда воины распяли Иисуса, они взяли Его верхнюю одежду и разделили на четыре части, каждому по одной. Рубашка Иисуса была без швов, сотканная целиком.
24 – Не будем ее рвать, – решили они, – бросим лучше жребий и посмотрим, кому она достанется.
Это случилось во исполнение сказанного в Писании:
«Они разделили между
собой Мои одежды,
и бросали жребий о Моем одеянии»[s].
и бросали жребий о Моем одеянии»[s].
Солдаты это исполнили.
25 Недалеко от креста Иисуса стояли Его мать, сестра матери, Мария – жена Клеопы и Мария из Магдалы. 26 Иисус увидел Свою мать и Своего любимого ученика, стоявшего рядом с ней.
– О женщина[t], вот твой сын, – сказал Иисус матери.
27 Своему же ученику Он сказал:
– Вот твоя мать.
С этого времени ученик этот взял ее к себе в дом.
Иисус умирает на кресте
( Мат. 27:48-50; Мк. 15:36-37; Лк. 23:36)
28 После того Иисус, зная, что все уже совершилось, и чтобы исполнилось Писание, сказал:– Хочу пить.
29 Там стоял кувшин с кислым вином, и солдаты, обмакнув в него губку, надели ее на стебель иссопа[u] и подняли к губам Иисуса[v]. 30 Иисус попробовал вино и сказал:
– Совершилось!
Сказав это, Он уронил голову на грудь и предал дух.
31 Была пятница, и иудеи не хотели, чтобы тела оставались на крестах в субботу, тем более, что эта суббота была днем великого праздника. Поэтому они попросили Пилата перебить распятым голени[w] и снять их тела с крестов. 32 Солдаты пришли и перебили голени сначала одному распятому рядом с Иисусом, а затем другому.
33 Когда же они подошли к Иисусу, то увидели, что Он уже мертв, и не стали перебивать Его ног. 34 Вместо этого один из солдат пронзил копьем бок Иисуса, и из него сразу же потекли кровь и вода.
35 Тот, кто сам это видел, свидетельствует об этом, чтобы и вы поверили. Его свидетельство истинно, и он знает, что говорит правду. 36 Все это произошло, чтобы исполнились слова Писания: «Ни одна из Его костей не будет переломлена»[x]. 37 И в другом месте Писания говорится: «Они будут смотреть на Того, Которого пронзили»[y].
Погребение Иисуса
(Мат. 27:57-61; Мк. 15:42-47; Лк. 23:50-56)
38 После этого Иосиф из Аримафеи попросил Пилата отдать ему тело Иисуса. Иосиф был учеником Иисуса, но тайным, из страха перед иудеями. С позволения Пилата он пришел и забрал тело. 39 С Иосифом был Никодим, который как-то приходил к Иисусу ночью. Никодим принес смесь из смирны и алоэ[z], литров около ста[aa]. 40 Они сняли тело Иисуса и завернули его вместе с бальзамом в пелены из льняной ткани. Таков был иудейский погребальный обычай. 41 Там, где Иисуса распяли, был сад, и в саду – новая гробница, где еще никого не хоронили. 42 Так как это была пятница – день приготовления к Пасхе, а гробница была рядом, то они положили там Иисуса.Footnotes:
