Psalm 97 -- The Message

God rules: there’s something to shout over!
On the double, mainlands and islands—celebrate!

² Bright clouds and storm clouds circle ’round him;
Right and justice anchor his rule.

³ Fire blazes out before him,
Flaming high up the craggy mountains.

⁴ His lightnings light up the world;
Earth, wide-eyed, trembles in fear.

⁵ The mountains take one look at God
And melt, melt like wax before earth’s Lord.

⁶ The heavens announce that he’ll set everything right,
And everyone will see it happen—glorious!

^7-8 All who serve handcrafted gods will be sorry—
And they were so proud of their ragamuffin gods!

On your knees, all you gods—worship him!
And Zion, you listen and take heart!

Daughters of Zion, sing your hearts out:
God has done it all, has set everything right.

⁹ You, God, are High God of the cosmos,
Far, far higher than any of the gods.

¹⁰ God loves all who hate evil,
And those who love him he keeps safe,
Snatches them from the grip of the wicked.

¹¹ Light-seeds are planted in the souls of God’s people,
Joy-seeds are planted in good heart-soil.

¹² So, God’s people, shout praise to God,
Give thanks to our Holy God!

He rules from his angel throne—take notice!
God looms majestic in Zion,
He towers in splendor over all the big names.
Great and terrible your beauty: let everyone praise you!
    Holy. Yes, holy.

^4-5 Strong King, lover of justice,
You laid things out fair and square;
You set down the foundations in Jacob,
Foundation stones of just and right ways.
Honor God, our God; worship his rule!
    Holy. Yes, holy.

^6-9 Moses and Aaron were his priests,
Samuel among those who prayed to him.
They prayed to God and he answered them;
He spoke from the pillar of cloud.
And they did what he said; they kept the law he gave them.
And then God, our God, answered them
(But you were never soft on their sins).
Lift high God, our God; worship at his holy mountain.

Evening

Psalm 115 -- The Message

^1-2 Not for our sake, God, no, not for our sake,
    but for your name’s sake, show your glory.
Do it on account of your merciful love,
    do it on account of your faithful ways.
Do it so none of the nations can say,
    “Where now, oh where is their God?”

^3-8 Our God is in heaven
    doing whatever he wants to do.
Their gods are metal and wood,
    handmade in a basement shop:
Carved mouths that can’t talk,
    painted eyes that can’t see,
Tin ears that can’t hear,
    molded noses that can’t smell,
Hands that can’t grasp, feet that can’t walk or run,
    throats that never utter a sound.
Those who make them have become just like them,
    have become just like the gods they trust.

^9-11 But you, Israel: put your trust in God!
    —trust your Helper! trust your Ruler!
Clan of Aaron, trust in God!
    —trust your Helper! trust your Ruler!
You who fear God, trust in God!
    —trust your Helper! trust your Ruler!

^12-16 O God, remember us and bless us,
    bless the families of Israel and Aaron.
And let God bless all who fear God—
    bless the small, bless the great.
Oh, let God enlarge your families—
    giving growth to you, growth to your children.
May you be blessed by God,
    by God, who made heaven and earth.
The heaven of heavens is for God,
    but he put us in charge of the earth.

^17-18 Dead people can’t praise God—
    not a word to be heard from those buried in the ground.
But we bless God, oh yes—
    we bless him now, we bless him always!

Exodus 12:40-51 -- The Message

The Passover

^40-42 The Israelites had lived in Egypt 430 years. At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, God’s entire army left Egypt. God kept watch all night, watching over the Israelites as he brought them out of Egypt. Because God kept watch, all Israel for all generations will honor God by keeping watch this night—a watchnight.

^43-47 God said to Moses and Aaron, “These are the rules for the Passover:

No foreigners are to eat it.
Any slave, if he’s paid for and circumcised, can eat it.
No casual visitor or hired hand can eat it.
Eat it in one house—don’t take the meat outside the house.
Don’t break any of the bones.
The whole community of Israel is to be included in the meal.

⁴⁸ “If an immigrant is staying with you and wants to keep the Passover to God, every male in his family must be circumcised, then he can participate in the Meal—he will then be treated as a native son. But no uncircumcised person can eat it.

⁴⁹ “The same law applies both to the native and the immigrant who is staying with you.”

^50-51 All the Israelites did exactly as God commanded Moses and Aaron. That very day God brought the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, tribe by tribe.

Израильтяне прожили в Египте^[a] четыреста тридцать лет. ⁴¹ В день, когда четыреста тридцать лет истекли, воинства Господа покинули Египет. ⁴² Это ночь бдения Господу за вывод их из Египта; эта ночь бдения Господу должна соблюдаться во всех поколениях израильтян.

Пасхальные законы

⁴³ Господь сказал Моисею и Аарону:

– Вот правила относительно пасхальной жертвы: ее не может есть чужеземец.  

⁴⁴ Купленный тобой раб может есть ее после того, как ты ему сделаешь обрезание, ⁴⁵ но временный житель и наемный работник не могут ее есть. ⁴⁶ Эту жертву следует есть в том доме, где ее приготовили – не выносите мясо из дома. Не ломайте ни одной из костей. ⁴⁷ Все общество Израиля должно совершать ее. ⁴⁸ Если чужеземец, живущий у вас, захочет праздновать Господню Пасху, все мужчины в его доме должны быть обрезаны. Тогда он сможет участвовать в ней как уроженец этой земли. Необрезанный не может участвовать в праздничной трапезе. ⁴⁹ Этот закон действителен и для уроженцев этой земли, и для чужеземцев, живущих среди вас.

⁵⁰ Все израильтяне сделали, как Господь повелел Моисею и Аарону. ⁵¹ В тот же день Господь вывел израильтян из Египта по их воинствам.

1 Corinthians 15:29-41 -- The Message

Why do you think people offer themselves to be baptized for those already in the grave? If there’s no chance of resurrection for a corpse, if God’s power stops at the cemetery gates, why do we keep doing things that suggest he’s going to clean the place out someday, pulling everyone up on their feet alive?

^30-33 And why do you think I keep risking my neck in this dangerous work? I look death in the face practically every day I live. Do you think I’d do this if I wasn’t convinced of your resurrection and mine as guaranteed by the resurrected Messiah Jesus? Do you think I was just trying to act heroic when I fought the wild beasts at Ephesus, hoping it wouldn’t be the end of me? Not on your life! It’s resurrection, resurrection, always resurrection, that undergirds what I do and say, the way I live. If there’s no resurrection, “We eat, we drink, the next day we die,” and that’s all there is to it. But don’t fool yourselves. Don’t let yourselves be poisoned by this anti-resurrection loose talk. “Bad company ruins good manners.”

³⁴ Think straight. Awaken to the holiness of life. No more playing fast and loose with resurrection facts. Ignorance of God is a luxury you can’t afford in times like these. Aren’t you embarrassed that you’ve let this kind of thing go on as long as you have?

^35-38 Some skeptic is sure to ask, “Show me how resurrection works. Give me a diagram; draw me a picture. What does this ‘resurrection body’ look like?” If you look at this question closely, you realize how absurd it is. There are no diagrams for this kind of thing. We do have a parallel experience in gardening. You plant a “dead” seed; soon there is a flourishing plant. There is no visual likeness between seed and plant. You could never guess what a tomato would look like by looking at a tomato seed. What we plant in the soil and what grows out of it don’t look anything alike. The dead body that we bury in the ground and the resurrection body that comes from it will be dramatically different.

^39-41 You will notice that the variety of bodies is stunning. Just as there are different kinds of seeds, there are different kinds of bodies—humans, animals, birds, fish—each unprecedented in its form. You get a hint at the diversity of resurrection glory by looking at the diversity of bodies not only on earth but in the skies—sun, moon, stars—all these varieties of beauty and brightness. And we’re only looking at pre-resurrection “seeds”—who can imagine what the resurrection “plants” will be like!

Это верно, братья, как и то, что я хвалюсь вами перед Иисусом Христом, нашим Господом!  

³² Если я только из человеческих побуждений боролся с дикими зверями^[b] в Эфесе, что я этим приобрел? Если мертвые не воскрешают, тогда что же: «Давайте будем есть и пить, потому что завтра умрем»?<sup>[c]

33</sup> Смотрите, чтобы вам не оказаться обманутыми: «Плохая компания развращает добрые нравы»^[d]. ³⁴ Отрезвитесь, как вам и должно, и перестаньте грешить, ведь некоторые из вас не знают Бога, – я говорю это к вашему стыду.

Земное и небесное тело

³⁵ Может, кто-то спросит: «Как воскреснут мертвые? Какое у них тогда будет тело?»  

³⁶ Спрашивать об этом неразумно. Ведь каждому семени для того, чтобы прорасти, надо сначала умереть! ³⁷ Когда ты сеешь, ты же сеешь не само растение, а лишь семя, пшеничное или какое-либо другое. ³⁸ А Бог по Своему усмотрению дает ему тело – каждому семени свое. ³⁹ Не все тела одинаковы: у людей не такое тело, как у зверей, у зверей не такое, как у птиц, а у птиц не такое, как у рыб. ⁴⁰ Есть тела небесные и тела земные. У небесных тел своя красота, и у земных тел своя. ⁴¹ У солнца тоже свое сияние^[e], у луны свое, у звезд свое. Звезды, в свою очередь, тоже отличаются по яркости друг от друга.

Matthew 28:1-16 -- The Message

Risen from the Dead

^1-4 After the Sabbath, as the first light of the new week dawned, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to keep vigil at the tomb. Suddenly the earth reeled and rocked under their feet as God’s angel came down from heaven, came right up to where they were standing. He rolled back the stone and then sat on it. Shafts of lightning blazed from him. His garments shimmered snow-white. The guards at the tomb were scared to death. They were so frightened, they couldn’t move.

^5-6 The angel spoke to the women: “There is nothing to fear here. I know you’re looking for Jesus, the One they nailed to the cross. He is not here. He was raised, just as he said. Come and look at the place where he was placed.

⁷ “Now, get on your way quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He is risen from the dead. He is going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.’ That’s the message.”

^8-10 The women, deep in wonder and full of joy, lost no time in leaving the tomb. They ran to tell the disciples. Then Jesus met them, stopping them in their tracks. “Good morning!” he said. They fell to their knees, embraced his feet, and worshiped him. Jesus said, “You’re holding on to me for dear life! Don’t be frightened like that. Go tell my brothers that they are to go to Galilee, and that I’ll meet them there.”

^11-15 Meanwhile, the guards had scattered, but a few of them went into the city and told the high priests everything that had happened. They called a meeting of the religious leaders and came up with a plan: They took a large sum of money and gave it to the soldiers, bribing them to say, “His disciples came in the night and stole the body while we were sleeping.” They assured them, “If the governor hears about your sleeping on duty, we will make sure you don’t get blamed.” The soldiers took the bribe and did as they were told. 

That story, cooked up in the Jewish High Council, is still going around.

^16-17 Meanwhile, the eleven disciples were on their way to Galilee, headed for the mountain Jesus had set for their reunion. The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally.

Явление Иисуса женщинам

⁸ Женщины ушли от гробницы испуганные, но в то же время очень обрадованные. Они побежали, чтобы поскорее рассказать обо всем ученикам Иисуса. ⁹ Вдруг их встретил Сам Иисус.

– Приветствую вас, – сказал Он.

Они подошли, обняли Его ноги и поклонились Ему. ¹⁰ Тогда Иисус сказал им:

Религиозные вожди подкупают стражу

¹¹ Женщины еще были в пути, когда несколько человек из стражи пришли в город и рассказали обо всем первосвященникам. ¹² Первосвященники посовещались со старейшинами и разработали план. Они дали солдатам много денег ¹³ и сказали:

– Говорите всем так: «Его ученики пришли ночью и выкрали Его, пока мы спали». ¹⁴ А если это дойдет до наместника, мы с ним поговорим, и тем вас избавим от неприятностей.

¹⁵ Солдаты взяли деньги и поступили так, как их научили. И эта выдумка распространена среди иудеев и по сегодняшний день.

Великое поручение

¹⁶ А одиннадцать учеников пошли в Галилею, на гору, куда Иисус велел им прийти.
