¹ Joyful are people of integrity,
    who follow the instructions of the Lord.
² Joyful are those who obey his laws
    and search for him with all their hearts.
³ They do not compromise with evil,
    and they walk only in his paths.
⁴ You have charged us
    to keep your commandments carefully.
⁵ Oh, that my actions would consistently
    reflect your decrees!
⁶ Then I will not be ashamed
    when I compare my life with your commands.
⁷ As I learn your righteous regulations,
    I will thank you by living as I should!
⁸ I will obey your decrees.

⁹ How can a young person stay pure?
    By obeying your word.

Psalms 12-14 -- New Living Translation

Psalm 12

For the choir director: A psalm of David, to be accompanied by an eight-stringed instrument.^[a]

¹ Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing!
    The faithful have vanished from the earth!
² Neighbors lie to each other,
    speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.
³ May the Lord cut off their flattering lips
    and silence their boastful tongues.
⁴ They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content.
    Our lips are our own—who can stop us?”

⁵ The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless,
    and I have heard the groans of the poor.
Now I will rise up to rescue them,
    as they have longed for me to do.”
⁶ The Lord’s promises are pure,
    like silver refined in a furnace,
    purified seven times over.
⁷ Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed,
    preserving them forever from this lying generation,
⁸ even though the wicked strut about,
    and evil is praised throughout the land.

Psalm 13

For the choir director: A psalm of David.

¹ O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?
    How long will you look the other way?
² How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,
    with sorrow in my heart every day?
    How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

³ Turn and answer me, O Lord my God!
    Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die.
⁴ Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”
    Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.

⁵ But I trust in your unfailing love.
    I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
⁶ I will sing to the Lord
    because he is good to me.

Psalm 14

For the choir director: A psalm of David.

¹ Only fools say in their hearts,
    “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, and their actions are evil;
    not one of them does good!

² The Lord looks down from heaven
    on the entire human race;
he looks to see if anyone is truly wise,
    if anyone seeks God.
³ But no, all have turned away;
    all have become corrupt.^[b]
No one does good,
    not a single one!

⁴ Will those who do evil never learn?
    They eat up my people like bread
    and wouldn’t think of praying to the Lord.
⁵ Terror will grip them,
    for God is with those who obey him.
⁶ The wicked frustrate the plans of the oppressed,
    but the Lord will protect his people.

⁷ Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel?
    When the Lord restores his people,
    Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.

Exodus 15:22-16:10 -- New Living Translation

Bitter Water at Marah

²² Then Moses led the people of Israel away from the Red Sea, and they moved out into the desert of Shur. They traveled in this desert for three days without finding any water. ²³ When they came to the oasis of Marah, the water was too bitter to drink. So they called the place Marah (which means “bitter”).

²⁴ Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded. ²⁵ So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink.
It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him. ²⁶ He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”

²⁷ After leaving Marah, the Israelites traveled on to the oasis of Elim, where they found twelve springs and seventy palm trees. They camped there beside the water.

Manna and Quail from Heaven

16 Then the whole community of Israel set out from Elim and journeyed into the wilderness of Sin,^[a] between Elim and Mount Sinai. They arrived there on the fifteenth day of the second month, one month after leaving the land of Egypt.^{[b] 2} There, too, the whole community of Israel complained about Moses and Aaron.

³ “If only the Lord had killed us back in Egypt,” they moaned. “There we sat around pots filled with meat and ate all the bread we wanted. But now you have brought us into this wilderness to starve us all to death.”

⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions. ⁵ On the sixth day they will gather food, and when they prepare it, there will be twice as much as usual.”

⁶ So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, “By evening you will realize it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt. ⁷ In the morning you will see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your complaints, which are against him, not against us. What have we done that you should complain about us?” ⁸ Then Moses added, “The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for he has heard all your complaints against him. What have we done? Yes, your complaints are against the Lord, not against us.”

⁹ Then Moses said to Aaron, “Announce this to the entire community of Israel: ‘Present yourselves before the Lord, for he has heard your complaining.’” ¹⁰ And as Aaron spoke to the whole community of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. There they could see the awesome glory of the Lord in the cloud.

⁴ Господь сказал Моисею:

– Я осыплю вас хлебом с неба. Пусть народ выходит каждый день и собирает, сколько нужно на день. Так Я испытаю их, будут ли они следовать Моим наставлениям. ⁵ На шестой день пусть они соберут вдвое больше, чем в прочие дни, и заготовят это впрок.

⁶ Моисей и Аарон сказали израильтянам:

– Вечером вы узнаете, что из Египта вас вывел Господь, ⁷ а утром увидите славу Господа, потому что Он услышал ваш ропот на Него. Кто мы такие, чтобы вам роптать на нас?

⁸ Еще Моисей сказал:

– Вот как вы узнаете, что это был Господь: этим вечером Он накормит вас мясом, а утром даст вам вдоволь хлеба. Он услышал ваш ропот на Него. Кто мы такие? Вы ропщете не на нас, а на Господа.

⁹ Моисей сказал Аарону:

– Скажи обществу израильскому: «Предстаньте пред Господом, потому что Он услышал ваш ропот».

Epistle

1 Peter 2:1-10 -- New Living Translation

So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. ² Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, ³ now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

Living Stones for God’s House

⁴ You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

⁵ And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests.^[a] Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. ⁶ As the Scriptures say,

“I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem,^[b]
    chosen for great honor,
and anyone who trusts in him
    will never be disgraced.”^[c]

⁷ Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him,

“The stone that the builders rejected
    has now become the cornerstone.”^[d]

⁸ And,

“He is the stone that makes people stumble,
    the rock that makes them fall.”^[e]

They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them.

⁹ But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests,^[f] a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

¹⁰ “Once you had no identity as a people;
    now you are God’s people.
Once you received no mercy;
    now you have received God’s mercy.”^[g]

⁶ Ведь в Писании говорится:

Они спотыкаются потому, что не послушны слову. Так для них и было определено.

⁹ А вы – род избранный, царственное священство, святой народ, люди, принадлежащие Богу, призванные возвещать о Его великих делах^[e]. Он призвал вас из тьмы в Свой чудесный свет. ¹⁰ Вы, которые раньше не были народом, теперь стали народом Божьим. Раньше не знавшие милости, теперь же помилованные^[f].

John 15:1-11 -- New Living Translation

Jesus, the True Vine

 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. ² He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. ³ You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. ⁴ Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

⁵ “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. ⁶ Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. ⁷ But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! ⁸ When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

⁹ “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. ¹⁰ When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. ¹¹ I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!

Виноградная лоза и ветви

 – Я истинная виноградная лоза, а Мой Отец – виноградарь. ² Он срезает на Мне каждую ветвь, не приносящую плода, а ветви, на которых есть плод, Он очищает, чтобы они еще больше плодоносили. ³ Вы уже очищены благодаря слову, которое Я вам говорил. ⁴ Будьте во Мне, и Я буду в вас. Ветвь сама по себе плодов приносить не может, если не будет на лозе. Вы тоже не сможете приносить плод, если не будете во Мне.

⁵ Я лоза, а вы ветви. Кто находится во Мне, а Я в нем, приносит много плода. Без Меня вы не можете делать ничего. ⁶ Кто не пребывает во Мне, тот подобен ветке, что выброшена вон и засыхает. Такие ветки подбирают, бросают в огонь, и они сгорают.  

⁷ Если вы будете во Мне и если Мои слова будут в вас, то все, о чем бы вы ни попросили, вы получите. ⁸ Если вы будете приносить богатый урожай и если вы будете Моими учениками, то Мой Отец будет прославлен.

⁹ Как Отец полюбил Меня, так Я полюбил вас: живите в Моей любви. ¹⁰ Если вы послушны Моим заповедям, то вы будете жить в Моей любви, как и Я послушен заповедям Моего Отца и живу в Его любви. ¹¹ Я говорю вам это, чтобы вы испытали Мою радость и чтобы ваша радость была полной.
